What’s in a Photographer’s bag(s)?

Have you heard?

Silk and Sword Photography is going to Venice! I was hired to conduct a promotional shoot for Renaissance Fabrics. What a great opportunity! I have been to Venice several times and it is a fabulous background for all kinds of photography.

And now the problem. How much gear can I jam into an airplane without extra baggage fees? I am flying business class on this one, so the answer is: quite a lot. But I still have to make cuts. C-stands? Go dream on! I have to make do with 3 dinky Amazon light stands. Flashes? absolutely! Actually three smaller ones (200W and 300W). Those will be the bulk of the weight. Reflectors, filters, softboxes, umbrella? Yes, those too. Oh boy. That doesn’t even include my camera and five lenses in my carry on bag. Plus a MacBook and Wacom tablet (if I POSSIBLY can). And then of course batteries, chargers, and italian plugs for those chargers. And all the little things that a photographer cannot live without (or thinks he cannot live without).

With that kind of gear I can weather most situations. I have an umbrella for on location shoots in the streets (setting up and breaking down a soft box between locations is not going to happen), and I have enough to set up a small studio at the palazzo where we are staying.

Bring it on Venice, I am ready!

Am I crazy? I prefer “passionate”.
